Sturgeon City’s mission requires education and with a generous grant from the Smithfield Environmental Enhancement Fund, a full time educator was hired for the Center.

Jeanne Stanley has worked to link the work of the Center, and the opportunities that are afforded by the site and its staff, to the classroom. A linkage between the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and activities and opportunities at the site has been completed.

The Center provides field trips and visits to the classroom to extend the environmental lessons of Sturgeon City to youth within the Onslow School System.

The Center also provides special equipment that can help make the field trip a real scientific exploration as well as available for demonstration in the classroom.
