Sturgeon City Media Studies

With the backdrop of the Sturgeon City Institutes, the successful Wilson Bay Initiative and the Sturgeon City Environmental Center Activities, students learn and then demonstrate real world journalism and video production skills. Students in the institute recieve instruction from professionals in the media industry as well as university instructors. They use broadcast quality equipment, identical to WITN-TV News Production equipment. Students also use advanced photographic gear and learn skills that can be applied to any photography assignment.

Students learn the basics of newswriting at a collegiate level, and then use that skill to produce daily reports; video, web, and print. The learning experience is intensified with daily deadlines, real world pressures of production concerns, and the coverage of real events. The Media Institute is open to rising Juniors, Seniors, and college students. Students are eligible to nominate themselves for this free Institute.
