Environmental Explorers: Our Middle School Aged Scientists!
Sixth Grade Geology Rocks- Geology can be super cool! We’ll learn about plate tectonics, the force behind volcanoes and earthquakes. Let’s get messy doing some fun experiments, pan for gemstones and even create our own 3-D model of Mt. St. Helens! -Covers NC Essential Standard: 6.E.2

What’s in a Wetland? We’ll learn about the energy flow in natural systems and the plants and animals of our wetland ecosystem. You’ll leave with an understanding of how adaptations allow different organisms to survive and how humans affect our natural surroundings. Most excitingly, you’ll become a muskrat for the day as we demonstrate wetland food webs. -Covers NC Essential Standards: 6.L.1 and 6.L.2
Seventh Grade Wicked Weather- We’ll use critical thinking skills to understand and predict weather phenomenon while learning how to read weather maps. Next we’ll study wicked weather events such as tornadoes, hurricanes and thunderstorms and learn how they can affect our local ecosystem. -Covers NC Essential Standard: 7.E.1
Eighth Grade Our Water- Learn about marine ecosystems and aquatic life during this interesting lesson. We will explore the Sturgeon City history and site and become a marine biologist for the day. -Covers NC Essential Standard: 8.E.1
