Our Funders
Picture
Our corporate grant sponsorship partners support Sturgeon City's educational initiatives within the fields of Science,Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through grants for programming equipment.  These resources facilitate our mission in providing high-quality, low-cost experiential programs to the youth of Onslow County.  We are extremely grateful to have the opportunity to utilize these funds toward programs that help spark interest in our community's children!

AT&T

Duke Energy Progress Foundation
The Duke Energy Progress Foundation sponsors Sturgeon City's middle-school program titled "It's Our Water!".  Students engage in hands-on learning activities that focus on the importance of water quality.  In this aggressive, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program, students apply scientific concepts in a variety of activities such as water testing, model experiments, and various demonstrations.

Lorrie Otto Seeds for Education
Sturgeon City was able to construct a butterfly garden in its courtyard thanks to Lorrie Otto's Seeds for Education grant program.  Through building this butterfly garden, students learned about proper planting techniques.  This space has also been transformed into an informal learning opportunity as students observe various wildlife attracted to the variety of plants.  In the spring of 2013, this space also became the natural habitat-home to four of Sturgeon City's Animal Ambassadors- Moe, Wally, Leroy and Gemma!  Now it is referred to as "The Turtle Garden"!

Lowe's Home Improvement
A group of Lowe's employees from the Yopp Road branch helped renovate Sturgeon City's Learning Center!  As part of the Lowe's Heroes Program, employee volunteers painted the floor, built new shelving units, and installed wonderful landscaping around the periphery of the building. What's more, one volunteer even built a portable fishing pole station, which will allow the kids to keep their poles and nets from getting tangled up when they go down to the dock to go fishing!

The Norcross Wildlife Foundation
The Norcross Wildlife Foundation provides Sturgeon City with funding to purchase child-size waders along with seine nets for educational wetland and conservation programs.  These funds enable smaller children to have a deeper hands-on learning experience as able to get up close and personal to the wide variety of creatures that live in Sturgeon City's wonderful wetlands!
