Park Construction

Volunteers are integral to the success of Sturgeon City and the habitat restoration work of the City of Jacksonville Water Quality Initiative. After a year in Iraq, the "Untouchables" of Marine Wing Support Squadron-272 of the New River Marine Corps Air Station, elected Sturgeon City as a community service project. They wanted to be a part of something in their community. Together, the 150 Marines and Sailors of the squadron helped to plant about 400 trees, shrubs and plants at Sturgeon City Park on April 2, 2004. Their work was appreciated as a gift of these heroes to the community.

Similarly, students with the Science Explorers, Wilson Bay Watchdogs and the Jacksonville Youth Council have also worked to plant marsh grasses at the park.
