Riverworks at Sturgeon City has been fortunate enough to work with some amazing organizations. Below are our generous sponsors. Without their support, Riverworks would not be able to continue to grow and prosper.










One important component of a successful nonprofit organization is its partners. Below are our community partners that have joined us in the effort to see Riverworks thrive.


Clean Water Management Trust Fund helped to provide the initial funding that was an impetus for the oyster based project



NC State University provided technical assistance, partnership for the staffing for the initial Wilson Bay Initiative and counsel for the projects. Dr. Jay Levine is a member of the NC State University faculty and the origin of many of the ideas that created the project.



Smithfield Environmental Enhancement Grant
provided funding for bioremediation of Thompson School Creek, new aeration units for Wilson Bay and an environmental education program.



Coastal Access Grant - providing funding for boardwalks and accessible grounds for the public to be near the water


LWCF Grant provided funding for the first phase of the Sturgeon City Park



NOAA provided funding for the Chaney Creek Community Habitat Restoration Project



Burroughs Wellcome Fund - providing funding for the Sturgeon City Science Series



Cooperative Extension - Providing staff and assistance for many of the educational and awareness programs as well as membership on the New River Roundtable



NC Dept of Environment and Natural Resources - provided funding for wetlands restoration and advice and counsel for water improvement projects


Coastal Carolina Community College
provided a partnership for the early days of the habitat restoration project and with youth education programs



New River Foundation - in partnership with the program for restoration of waterways and youth programs



UNC Institute of Marine Science - provided laboratory analysis and assistance



US Army Corps of Engineer - providing $4.2 million worth of bioremediation projects, membership to the steering committee and technical assistance



USMC – Camp Lejeune - providing technical assistance for the effort, funding for some specific actions to rid Wilson Bay of pollutants and special studies of the program.



UNC Wilmington - providing technical assistance, partnership in economic evaluation of the project and counsel for the New River Roundtable.
