Young Leaders
Trust Building Exercise
By: Chris Roush AKA Mr.X

Taking time out of a busy schedule, the young leaders listened to Greg Clemmons on Trust. After listening to him about what it takes to be a good leader, he put them in different situations to see if they will trust the each other. They are doing these exercises to sharpen their leadership skills before next week when they will serve as leaders and mentors to rising eighth graders during the Sturgeon City Leadership Institute.

One of the activities was mouse trap. Working with a partner who was blind-folded, the other person had to talk/guide the person through obstacles without touching the those obstacles. Sounds easy, but not so when outside noises and distractions such as clapping and yelling were added to the test. The second building exercise was a hard exercise for the young leaders, because they had to really trust the two people that are going to be hold the stick so he/she could get to the next one. They had to walk about 30 feet on the sticks, but after they passed the ones holding the stick they had to move quickly to get in position at the end the line

A balancing act.

After all of the different exercises and situations that Mr. Clemmons put the young leaders in, he finished up by talking about how to make people and themselves see through the situation or problem instead of looking just at it.
The young leaders learned a lot from the experience, which will help them be a better leader and person before they have to their newly honed skills to work.
