Rain Garden
One step cloder to cleaner water.

As a part tutes, students take time to volunteer and help the community. One activity members took part in was cleaning and recreating a rain garden. Rain gardens filter water before it goes into storm drains, so that when it reaches the river, the water is as clean as possible. Thomas Scholl, a rising sophomore at Swansboro High School stated, “It’s really cool to know that the work we’re doing is going to help the cleanliness and clusion after participating yesterday in the water quality testing activity. In order to complete their task, students had to dig up all the weeds and rocks that had eroded the rain garden over the last couple of years. Through much sweat and hard work, the Science Institute candidates were able to restore the garden back to its original, wholesome stature. Scholl also said, “If each person in our community would put back at least one hour to helping our environment, our neighborhoods and surroundings would probably be ten times cleaner and environmentally safer.”
